On The Go Day & Night

Hi family. I'm happy to update everyone on mom's condition. She is making progress at a very rapid rate. I spent the night with her at the hospital last night. During the night mom was able to remove pretty much everything she was attached to, as far as IV's and other apparatuses were concerned. She was up and down a good portion of the night needing to use the restroom. The positive side of all of this being that she is now able to go to the restroom with minimal assistance and her Dr said it was OK to leave the IV's out. She still has a small tube in her back that is draining fluid from her wound but for the most part, mom is pretty good at leaving that alone. She is down to 2 liters of oxygen which is the amount she normally sleeps with at home and she is still hooked to a pulse oximeter machine which measures the amount of oxygen she is breathing into her lungs. Hopefully we will be able to discontinue the use of that machine either tonight or tomorrow morning.

Mom has been making wonderful progress in physical therapy. She walked in the hall for about 5-7 minutes twice today with oxygen and she moved at a very quick pace (I'm not sure dad would have been able to keep up with her. Usually he is the fast one). She does not appear to be in a severe amount of pain. I believe the treatment that she is receiving at St. Marks is premium quality.

My only concern is that we may not be able to have someone be with her 24/7 and she may require that assistance for a few days. If such care is needed, the hospital may be able to hire a sitter to stay with mom at night so she does not harm herself when she is trying to get up and down to go to the restroom. Diana is staying with her tonight, so we will have a better idea in the morning about the next step we should take. All in all, I think mom is doing very well. She is feeling the strength of all of our prayers and they are being answered. Please keep praying.

John
